Five people were awarded the Freedom of Verwood in 2023


On the 23rd July 2023 the following five people were made honorary Freemen of Verwood:-
Val Bright,
Royston Slade,
Gordon Thorne,
Hilly Chittenden, and
Adrian Wareham.
They were presented with their Freedom Scrolls and Honorary Freeman badges by 2022/23 Town Mayor Cllr Simon Gibson and the current 2023/24 Town Mayor Cllr Tony Coombs.
Angela Daymond who was made an Honourary Freeman in 2012 was also presented with her Freedom Scroll.　

One person was awarded the Freedom of Verwood in 2018


In 2018 Peggy Gandeton was made honorary Freemen of Verwood.
 

 

Brenda Slade awarded the BEM inthe 2015 Honours List.


Brenda is well known in Verwood, and became a bespoke tailor in the 1950's starting work in 1983.　

 

Pamela Reeks awarded the BEM inthe 2014 Honours List.


Verwood’s Pam Reeks has been awarded the　 British Empire Medal for services to the community in the 2014 Honours List. Pam has said that she found it very difficult not to say anything since she fist knew about it last November.　

 

Three people were awarded the Freedom of Verwood in 2012


In 2012 the following three people were made honorary Freemen of Verwood:-
Pamela Reeks,
Angela Daymond, and
Colin Bateman.

Verwood's Paralympics cyclist Darren Kenny, won 1 silver and 4 gold medals at the   Paralympics in Beijing in 2008
 

Retirement of PAM & Ron Reeks from the organisation of the Vintage Vehicles displays at the Rustic Fayre (Aug 2006).  

 

Arthur Michael Wareham (Mike) Dies
2nd September. 1917 to 29th August. 2015.


Mike was a guitarist in the regimental dance band and spent several months entertaining the allied troops before returning home and setting up his own group (Mike Wareham's Allstars.) who played in Ringwood's Lecture Hall or Crown Hotel. He also made the Desert rat stencil.

 

Retirement of Dan & Joyce Andrews in 1988.
(They were the owners of Ringwood Road, Butchers.) 

In August 1988, for health reasons, Dan and Joyce Andrews, whose premises were in Ringwood Road, (where the Indian Palace restaurant is in 2005) retired.
