The Heritage Lottery does
not give grants to new museums, heritage centres or
visitors' centres with a permanent foundation but only to
those projects of a limited, temporary
nature. This avenue has already been explored
unsuccessfully.
Robert Thorne Ltd. has
already donated the building valued at
£60,000.
East Dorset District
Council has granted a long term lease at a peppercorn rent
on land at the rear to the value of £50,000 on which the
studio and courtyard were built.
The money for the
extensions has been raised by the Trustees, other Verwood
people and businesses, Grants from Verwood Town Council and
East Dorset District Council.
Sanitary equipment has
been donated by Bradford Building Supplies and Purbeck
Pottery has donated cups and saucers for the cafe.
In addition a grant was
received from "The New Horizons Trust" for
interior painting by a group of volunteers.
Running costs are covered
by donations, entrance fees, events, and sales.
The centre is voluntarily manned.
