The 7th Marques of
Salisbury (formerly Viscount Cranborne).
Patron until 2006.
|
The current Manor House in Cranborne which
was built in the early 14th Century by the then Earl of
Gloucester and transformed later by Robert Cecil for the
entertainment of James 1st has been described as "the
loveliest manor house in Dorset".
It was never the seat of the heads of the
family, who preferred Hatfield House.
On the death of his father the then
Viscount Cranborne became the 7th Marques of Salisbury and
moved to Hatfield House in 2006.
It is for this reason that he resigned as
a Patron of the Verwood Heritage Centre and has been
replaced by his son the current Viscount Cranborne.
