VISIT TO LIEDERBACH 1 -
5 DECEMBER 2005
45 Of our members spent a very enjoyable long weekend visiting
friends in Liederbach. Friday, we went for a boat trip on the
Rhine
from Rüdesheim to Goarshausen. From
there the coach took us to the Lorelei View Point for a stunning view of the
Rhine
way below. We then had lunch in Rüdesheim and
visited the Christmas Market. We met some twinners from Swanage who
were there with a Stall for 14 days.
Saturday we went to
Speyer
to the splendid Romanesque Cathedral built in the 11th Century where we had a
guided tour. After lunch, we spent
time at the Christmas Market. In the evening we attended the Soirée
in the Liederbach Halle. We enjoyed good company, an excellent
meal and had a pleasant evening with our hosts. Sunday,
many of us helped on our own Stall at the Liederbach Christmas Market where we
sold Christmas goods. Free time was spent with the families. On
Monday evening we
arrived home tired but having had a wonderful time.

past years.
We welcome the following new members to the
committee:
Julie Blackwell-West, Terry Bright, Colin and
Sandra Hinvest and Rosemary and Malcolm Scott.
Alice Fergie, a
Verwood guide, talked about her trip to the Danish National Jamboree.
She did so with youthful
enthusiasm, good humour and fervour.
Alice
had photographs and badges and other paraphernalia on show.
Alice
gave us a very entertaining evening.

SATURDAY 12 NOVEMBER 2005
About 80 people attended our quiz evening. Thank you all members
of the Committee who helped with the event. This includes of

was had by all.

Your greetings cards are still being put to good use. We have sold many at the AGM and the
November Event. We have even taken some to
Germany
. The cards are still only 30 pence each. Please
let me have your Birthday, Thank You and Get Well cards.
We
have given £50.00 to the Mayor’s Charity Appeal for Age Concern - Verwood. They
do such good work for the lonely and the housebound, transporting their clients
to and from the Centre every Monday and Wednesday. The
money will go towards the minibus
which costs a lot to maintain and insure.
The report of this year’s
activities of our Association has been sent to the Council of Europe in
Strasbourg
. This to see whether we have done enough
to receive the European Flag of Honour for Verwood.
I have been contacted by Jane
Mearns, Scout leader (Ararat) Verwood. As part of their International Award the
youngsters are trying to make contact with Scouts abroad.
I have given them details of contacts in Champtoceaux and Calcinato (
France
’s twin-town in
Italy
) and Liederbach and Saldus (
Germany
’s twin-town in
Latvia
).
It would be great if this contact would result in
exchanges between the youngsters of these different towns.
If you know of a scout group elsewhere in the
world, please let me know and I will forward that
information to Jane Mearns.
Stuart Clifton has put information about the Twinning
Association on http://verwood.org/twinning/index.htm.
You will also find links to Champtoceaux and Liederbach.
