All members should now be aware of the following:
1: Cancellation of the Twinning visit to Orée-d'Anjou
in September 2020.
It is with disappointment that due to the current Covid-19
situation the committee can confirm that the planned trip to
Orée-d'Anjou, France during September 2020 has been cancelled and it
is hoped that it can occur in 2021.
All deposits have now been refunded by Sandra, our Treasurer.
2: Cancellation of the Twinning visit to Blackpool & Liverpool.
The parent company of the coach company SHEARINGS ceased trading
so the visit in October had to be cancelled.
Refunds
are being processed by the agent through the ABTA scheme – but this
could take some time.
Happy hour is starting earlier and earlier. If
this keeps up, I’ll be pouring wine in my cereal!
Death of Dorothy Curd in June 2020 |
We
have been informed of the sad news that Dorothy Curd has passed
away this June. Current members may not be aware that in 1981,
a letter was sent from a director of Manitou (Mr Himsworth)
to the Verwood Parish Council, requesting a meeting to
discuss a possible twinning between Verwood and
Champtoceaux.
A meeting was arranged at the Monmouth Ash Public House, at
which Mr Himsworth (a Director of Manitou) and four Parish
Councillors,
R (Ron) V W Curd,
L (Leo) Roberts, G (Gordon) J
Thorne and F W (Bill) Williams, were present making Dorothy and her
husband Ron founder members of the Verwood Twinning Association and
were Officers & members of the Association until age forced them to
retire to their family in Exeter, where Ron died in 2018 at the
grand old age of 105. He was a Councilor for many years. They were
also founder members of the Verwood Amateur Dramatic Society.
The Picture shows Ron
and Dorothy at their Home in Lake Road Verwood in 2005.
30 Days Hath September, April, June and November.
All the rest have 31 … except March and April which had 8000.
As everybody is now aware the current programme of meetings in
the Heritage Centre has currently been postponed with most events
being delayed to next year (hopefully). The problem is that in our 2
main venues it would be difficult to maintain social distancing at
the present time.
Your committee is continuously monitoring the situation but it is
unlikely that meetings will be possible in the immediate future. We
will check the situation for the AGM and if it has to be delayed
then the next main event would be the extravaganza in December.
I need to practice social-distancing from the
refrigerator.
The Crew of a return flight from
Malaga on Sunday the 26th of July 2020, counted 11 cruise
ships from Weymouth bay to the Isle of Wight. The photo (Taken by
one of the pilots - Matthew) shows Weymouth bay from about FL180. (I
personally counted 7 in the photo).

Every few days try your jeans on to make sure they
fit.
Pyjamas will have you believe all is well in the Kingdom.
